Personality and Temperament

Personality

The Pomchi is an intelligent, energetic dog that is eager to learn as well as to please. The Pom-chi is a sweet and affectionate little dog that bonds strong and fast with his family. Pom-Chis are quite playful and love to run around the house chasing toys. Because they don’t need a ton of exercise, they are perfect for apartment or condo living. The Pomchi is blessed with an affectionate and devoted personality that endears him to his family.

Temperament

The temperament of a Pomchi can be more Pomeranian like (protective and loyal) or Chihuahua like (outgoing but stubborn). The temperament is also controlled by the level of socialization the dog gets while it is young. These little powerhouses make good watchdogs, alerting everyone when a stranger is on their turf. This small dog can be quite stubborn and assertive and will try to rule the household if he can get away with it.

Activity Requirements

The Pomchi is a fairly active dog, and while he will get most of his exercise following you around the house, he will still need a daily walk. These active little dogs are quick learners and respond best to kind but firm instruction, and as long as it is fun they will be keen to please.

Behavioral Traits

The Pomchi is known for being confident as well as loyal to its family. The Pomchi loves to play games and will respond well to challenging tasks which exercise their inquisitive nature.

Trainability

These dogs respond well to training as they are very intelligent, but training has to be fun or their attention will wander. The Pomchi likes to cuddle and enjoys all the attention you can give him. Indoor games, short walks, and playtime in the yard are sufficient activity to keep a Pomchi happy. It is well suited to apartment life.

Health Problems

Pomchi is not a dog that tolerates cold conditions very well. If the dog will be outside in cold weather, a dog sweater or coat should be provided in order to prevent the dog from becoming chilled and developing a health problem. Both the Pomeranian and Chihuahua are associated with certain inherited health conditions, which could be passed down and then show up in the Pomchi.

Living conditions

The Pomchi adapts well to apartments or they will enjoy a secure yard to explore. The best environment for the Pomchi is one in which it can live indoors with its master and receive plenty of love and attention. This is not a dog that will do well living outdoors or being left alone for long periods of time.

How to take care?

Exercise

This dog does not need a lot of exercises and a short walk to let it go to the bathroom outdoors is sufficient. It will get a lot of its exercise from playing with games and toys. Pom-Chi puppies are cute and adorable but they do take a lot of work. They need to be socialized from the time they get to their new homes and this should continue throughout their lives. This hybrid breed is perfectly happy with a few short walks each day. He should not go to any dog park unless it has an area that is designated for toy breed dogs.
