The Pachón Navarro is a hunting dog breed from the autonomous region of Navarre in northern Spain. It is one of five Basque dog breeds, along with the Basque Shepherd Dog, Erbi Txakur, Villano de Las Encartaciones, and Villanuco de Las Encartaciones.

The Old Spanish Pointer is another name for the Pachón Navarro. This is a little perplexing because the breed is a near descendant of another breed with the same exact name, yet they are not identical.

History

The Pachón Navarro is a hunting dog breed from the autonomous region of Navarre in northern Spain. It was recognized by the Real Sociedad Canine in 1911, but by the 1960s was believed to be extinct.

The Pachón is said to be one of the Iberian peninsula’s earliest pointer dogs. Efforts to recover the breed began in 1979, a breed standard was released by the government of Navarre in 2006, and in 2010 the Pachón was added to the list of dog breeds recognized by the Spanish government.
